These women are, have been or will be married to men and have been hurt in some way by them. They have been overpowered, raped, betrayed, abducted or in some other way abused.
HERA
This is the goddess of marriage. She stands for the woman who considers her role as student, professional or mother secondary to her essential goal of being in relationship with her husband. Here she is, queen of the gods, wife of Zeus, and betrayed by his philandering. Proud and mad as hell.
DEMETER
She is the goddess of grain and the maternal archetype. Demter represents a woman's drive to provide physical and spiritual sustenance for her children. Here she is in agony because her daughter has been abducted and she has not yet been able to find out where she is.
PERSEPHONE
Persephone is the abducted daughter of Demeter. She expresses a woman's tendency towards compliancy, passivity, and a need to please and be wanted by others. When persephone matures, she becomes the powerful queen of the underworld and its mysteries, but not without some difficult transformative trials.
